A feature film adaptation for Sony’s acclaimed Uncharted video game series has been in and out of development for several years. At one point David O. Russell was attached to direct, while Mark Wahlberg was imagined as series protagonist Nathan Drake. Despite this, advancement on the film repeatedly stalled — until now. Sony has announced that the movie adaptation is not only moving forward but it is being fast tracked with Shawn Levy taking a seat in the director’s chair.
According to Deadline, Levy will direct, while Joe Carnahan — who had previously been mentioned as a possible director — will write the script, while concentrating his directorial efforts on Bad Boys For Life, the long-awaited third film in the Bad Boys series.
Levy is best known as the director of the Night at the Museum series, and his other credits include studio comedies like Date Night, The Internship, and This is Where I Leave You. He is also an executive producer of the popular Netflix series Stranger Things, and directed several episodes of the first season.
